    How do we get picked as the first family to board the ship?

    Ahoy Niki –

    FAITH. TRUST. PIXIE DUST. Being picked to be the Family of the Day at Disney Cruise Line would probably be the highlight of my trip. I have tried to figure out what it takes to be chosen, and it really has a lot to do with luck.  This is because they are chosen at random by the cast members at the port. On embarkation day, one lucky family is selected to be introduced to the other cruisers and board the ship first.

    I have seen plenty of different folks chosen: some dressed in costume, some with custom Disney shirts and some wearing regular old clothes. They are from all walks of life and from all over the world. A little pixie told me that it does not hurt to ask at check-in if you would like that honor. Have I had the best vacation of my life without being Family of the Day – ABSOLUTELY. I am sure that whether or not your family is chosen, it will be the best trip ever.
