Welcome to planDisney, Marlo! Thanks for stopping by with your question.
First and foremost: Hakuna Matata! The Disney Cast Members have thought of everything to help Guests have spectacular visits to the Most Magical Place on Earth, and your older-model phone will not stop you from having a blast. I have visited the Walt Disney World Resort several times with my parents, who are from Canada and don't usually purchase an international data plan, and it has barely been more than an inconvenience. There are Cast Members ready to assist you throughout the Walt Disney World Resort, and plenty of Guests are in your shoes. No worries!
While
Mobile Food and Beverage Ordering and contactless payment are strongly encouraged right now, there are regular queues open at most dining locations for Guests without smartphones and those with dietary or other special needs. You will find a Cast Member at the entrance to most locations who will be happy to assist you.
As for
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, they've got you covered there too! Stop at a
Guest Experience Team Kiosk and explain that you don't have a smartphone. While you will likely not be able to join the initial boarding groups of the day (those currently open at 7:00 a.m., so you wouldn't be inside Disney's Hollywood Studios), you should have a chance at the second batch of
boarding groups. Note that you must have a
Disney Park Pass reservation for Disney's Hollywood Studios in order to enjoy the attraction.
Because things are changing so frequently during the
phased reopening of the Walt Disney World Resort, be sure to stop and chat with a Guest Relations Cast Member, or a Cast Member at your Disney Resorts Collection hotel, about options for Guests without smartphones. They will have the most up-to-date information and can share helpful tips to get the most out of your visit.
One piece of advice I have is to ensure you pick up a
park map from the entrance of each theme park. I love using the interactive map feature in the
My Disney Experience mobile app to find restrooms, water fountains, and photo spots, and that's one feature I would miss. On our last visit, my parents couldn't access the map (and didn't have a paper map), and I was trying to text directions from the Haunted Mansion to where I was waiting in Tomorrowland. Luckily, my tween is a walking park map and she got them where they were going, but they learned to always pick up a map after that day.
Marlo, have the BEST time at Walt Disney World! If you think of any more questions as you plan and dream, please come back and see us.
Wishing you a magical vacation,
Robyn
