Heather from UT Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

If you have 2 people on a reservation for hotel/ tickets and each person has a magic band- should each person link the other person’s magic band to their MDE account so both magic bands will open the room door? What about scanning for genie+ selections?

    Hi Heather, welcome to planDisney!

It sounds like plans for your Walt Disney World Resort vacation are progressing nicely. You've secured the Disney trifecta: a Disney Resorts Collection hotel reservation, theme park tickets, and a MagicBand. Let's make sure everything and everyone is properly connected in My Disney Experience.

If you booked a vacation package through the Walt Disney World website, your hotel and tickets should already be linked to your My Disney Experience account. You can verify this by hovering over the My Disney Experience menu on the Walt Disney World website and clicking "My Plans." Your traveling partner should do the same. If your reservation or tickets do not appear, you can link them, along with your MagicBand, here.

MagicBands are magical accessories that allow you to unlock your Disney Resort hotel room, enter the parks, connect Disney PhotoPass images to your account, tap into Lightning Lane entrances, charge food and merchandise purchases to your Disney Resort hotel, and more! As long as you and your friend's vacation entitlements and MagicBands are linked to your My Disney Experience accounts, you will each be able to access the magic.

MagicBands are unique to an individual and nontransferrable, Heather, meaning they can only be linked to one person's account. Instead of linking MagicBands, you and your traveling partner want to make sure you're connected as Family and Friends in My Disney Experience. The easiest way to do this is in the My Disney Experience mobile app:

    1. Click the three, small horizontal lines on the bottom right of the home screen.
    2. Scroll down and click "My Profile."
    3. Scroll down and click "Show My Linking Code."
    4. Have your friend open their My Disney Experience account, click "My Profile," Click the "Family and Friends List" tab, "Add a Guest," "Scan their linking code," and the blue "Scan Linking Code" button.
    5. Your friend can either scan your QR code directly or you can send them a screenshot for them to manually enter your code.

You can also connect as Family and Friends online. Once connected, you and your traveling partner will be able to purchase Disney Genie+ service together, make Genie+ Lightning Lane reservations together, include each other on dining reservations, see each other's Disney PhotoPass images, and more. Your MagicBands will be scanned separately at park entry and Lightning Lane touchpoints as each MagicBand houses that individual's ticket and/or Lightning Lane reservation.

I recommend checking out planDisney's Top 22 for 2022 before your visit. We're still waiting to hear more about number 15, MagicBand+, but keep an eye out for this new technology when you're in the parks. And be sure to return to planDisney with any other questions before, during, or after your vacation.

    Dream big,
    Jennifer
