Hi there, Amy! Welcome to planDisney!
Oh boy, I'm so excited to hear that you're making plans to visit
Walt Disney World Resort in May! On my most recent visit, I brought along my parents who utilized the
Disability Access Service. This worked well to help make sure they didn't miss a minute of the magic! Amy, I would love to help you with your question and give you all the information available to you.
You are right, some attractions offer various levels of assistance when accessing ride vehicles at Walt Disney World Resort. For attractions that are continuously moving, there is often the ability to slow down (or even temporarily pause) the attraction in order to allow people a little extra time to safely exit the ride vehicle. I'd also recommend that you check out the
Services for Guests with Mobility Disabilities, which outlines the type of assistance provided for different types of attractions. For example, if a Guest requires the use of an ECV or wheelchair, there's a
list of attractions where Guests may remain in their ECV/wheelchair during the experience. My best tip for Guests who require a bit more mobility assistance is to speak to a Cast Member outside of the attraction. They'll be able to let you know what you can expect and if there happens to be an alternate entrance that would make the attraction more accessible.
Additionally, I would highly recommend calling Disability Services at (407) 560-2547 or emailing
disability.services@disneyparks.com. They will be happy to assist you with your questions and personal needs, especially if you're wondering about specific attractions. This team is dedicated to making sure that the parks and experiences remain accessible for all Guests.
I hope I was able to point you in the right direction, Amy! If you have any other questions, I hope you visit us again real soon.
You've got a friend in me!
