Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Chris!
I was so happy to read about
The Walt Disney Company’s commitment to reducing plastic waste, which can be seen in the theme parks and resorts with the replacement of plastic straws with paper straws and the move toward large toiletry canisters rather than single-use, travel-sized bottles. Those efforts haven’t yet expanded to the Resort Refillable Mug program, and I like the way you’re thinking about reducing your own waste during your visit. Wall-E and Eve would surely be proud!
Chris, I don’t think you will be able to replace the Resort Refillable Mug with your own reusable tumbler, because those mugs have an RFID chip inside that alerts the system to your eligibility, which is based on the length of your resort stay. While the coffee stations do not use RFID technology (that’s just at the soda islands), I still think the Cast Members will say this is not allowed, as it would be very difficult to monitor who has paid. I would recommend talking to a Cast Member or the manager at
Everything POP Shopping & Dining about replacing a Resort Refillable Mug with using your own coffee tumbler, as they may know something I don’t, or be able to work magic for you.
If you’re talking about purchasing individual cups of coffee throughout your visit, that's also worth asking about. It's possible you’ll be able to pay for a coffee but refuse a cup, and use your own at the coffee dispenser. You may also want to share with the manager, as well as a Front Desk Cast Member, your feedback about making the Resort Refillable Mug program more sustainable.
Chris, you’ll also find a coffee maker in your room at
Disney’s Pop Century Resort, so you can fill up on that liquid pixie dust there, too. Should you need refills of coffee, tea, or supplies, simply dial Mousekeeping on your room phone and a friendly Cast Member will be happy to restock.
Have so much fun on your vacation…which is starting TOMORROW! Safe travels, and have the best time!
Wishing you a magical vacation,
Robyn
