Ahoy there, Keli! Thanks for pulling alongside us here at planDisney! I'm thrilled to hear you're considering setting sail on the high seas with Captain Mickey, Captain Minnie and their entire crew!
From the looks of it, you're looking at a
Caribbean itinerary that calls on both
Cozumel and
Grand Cayman. Hmmm...my "ship's sense" says you might be looking at the
6-night Very Merrytime Cruise from Port Canaveral! That's a smart match if you ask me - what's not to love? A wonderful holiday-themed cruise on the
Disney Fantasy, with stops in Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and (of course)
Disney Castaway Cay! What a way to spend the holidays - someone's getting a great gift!
If you are leaving from a U.S. port and returning to that same port (as you would on round-trip itineraries departing from Port Canaveral) you can travel with both an original or copy of your state issued birth certificate and government issued photo ID. Passports are not required on these itineraries, but are highly encouraged in the event of any issues that could require you to fly home to the US, as passports ARE required to enter the US by air travel. Now, requirements are always subject to change, so I'd keep an eye on the
passport and travel documentation page of the Disney Cruise Line website to stay informed!
I definitely suggest sailing with your passport, as I've seen the logistical hoops that arranging a flight back to the US in an emergency without one can bring. I've got a friend who once had to stay in another country for WEEKS while the United States Embassy worked with him to get a passport after he missed his ship coming back from a non-Disney Cruise Line excursion...one more reason my family also always books
Port Adventures for the peace of mind on that front as well!
When you have a passport, you can spend less time worrying about those worst-case scenarios and more time enjoying
everything that's included on a Disney Cruise Line vacation! Plus while docked in port, you can partake in amazing cultural exploration in Cozumel, and wildlife experiences or amazing SCUBA diving adventures in Grand Cayman (if you're certified), and a picture-perfect day at Castaway Cay! There's so much to do, you'll need all the mental energy you can get!
I hope that helps you weigh your options before you weigh anchor on your Disney Cruise Line vacation, Keli! Thank you so much for sailing by with your question! If any others appear on the horizon, please sail my way again and drop me a line here at planDisney!
SEA you on the open ocean!
Andrew
