Is a passport required for a 16 year old traveling on the Disney Wonder to Alaska, leaving from Vancouver?

    Hello there, Kelly!

I’m so excited that you’ll be experiencing a Disney Cruise Line Alaska voyage so soon! This trip is at the top of my wish list.

Per the Disney Cruise Line Passports, Visas & Citizenship Documentation website, US Citizens (including children) traveling to or returning from Canada (Vancouver) by air require an original valid US Passport. Whereas US Citizens (Guests 16 years of age and older) traveling to Canada (Vancouver) by land or sea require an original valid US Passport, an Original valid US Passport Card, or an Original valid Trusted Traveler Card (NEXUS, FAST). Alternatively, these Guests can carry an original or copy of a state-issued birth certificate AND Government-issued photo ID (please note that Puerto Rico birth certificates issued prior to 7/1/10 and Hospital-issued birth certificates are not acceptable). You can find more information on the US State Department’s website.

Kelly, whenever I’m traveling abroad, I like to carry a photocopy of my passport and a picture of my passport on my mobile device in case I lose my original. Having these extras may come in handy if you lose your original and you run into issues while you are traveling.

I hope you’re starting to pack up and get ready for your magical vacation. Feel free to circle back if you need anything else.

May the magic be with you!
