Hi Janet!
Welcome to planDisney. I can see you are just a few days out from your
Magic Key expiring, so let's not waste a minute in getting an answer for you.
I think I have some good news! You do not need to pre-purchase a Magic Key for your child before they turn 3 years old. Provided your own Magic Key is current and active, there are a few options for securing a key to the kingdom for your kiddo when that birthday arrives. If
Magic Keys are on sale, you can go ahead and purchase one on the Disneyland website as you would for yourself. Of course, as I'm sure you know, sales can be paused at any time and specific keys may not always be available. In the event that Magic Keys are not on sale, current key holders can purchase one for their newly-turned 3 year old in person at the Ticket Booth in the Main Entrance Esplanade within 60 days of the birthdate. Your child must be present at the time of purchase, and you will be asked to present a document with proof of the birthdate - an original or certified copy of the birth certificate or passport. If you have any more specific questions, you can always call
Magic Key Guest Services at (714) 781-7277. They are happy to help!
There is so much magic in the air, I just know you and your Mouseketeer will be strolling down Main Street time and time again this year with those keys in hand. Personally, I am counting down the days to the
70th Anniversary Celebration kicking off this May! To make the most of your Magic Keys between now and then, be sure to check out the"
Extras Unlocked" section of the Disneyland website. This is where you can find current, exclusive offerings just for key holders. If you are heading into the parks before the end of January, key holders can receive a discount of
50% off Lightning Lane Multi Pass - truly, a pixie-dusted perk!
Janet, I sure hope this was helpful. If you have any more questions, you know where to find us here at

Wishing you magic,
Tara
