Happy New Year, Jennifer!
Welcome to planDisney and thank you so very much for allowing me to answer your question!
I recently watched Episode 9 of Behind the Attraction,
Trains, Trams and Monorails. If you have not seen it, be sure to check it out on
Disney+. This episode taught me that Walt Disney first discovered monorails while traveling in Germany. I also learned that when the
Disneyland Monorail opened in 1959,
the ribbon-cutting was performed by Vice-Presidential children, Tricia and Julie Nixon. Although, Walt did have to step in to assist when the scissors couldn’t quite cut the ribbon!
Since the beginning, this attraction has remained a fan-favorite entrance to Disneyland Park. Personally, I love to start my day with a ride on the Disneyland Monorail. Plus, it's advantageous to be dropped right in the heart of Tomorrowland! As soon as I exit, I head over to race through the cosmos on my second attraction of the day,
Space Mountain! If you and your party would like to Fly the Highway in the Sky, catch a ride from the Downtown Disney District Monorail Station. But don’t forget, each member of your party must have both valid theme park admission to Disneyland Park and a
Theme Park Reservation in order to use this method of transportation.
Guests of the Disneyland Resort theme parks and the
Downtown Disney District and are required to pass through a security screening prior to being admitted. So, you and your party will have already gone through security before you even reach the
Disneyland Park turnstiles or the Downtown Disney District Monorail Station.
Finally, please be reminded that the Disneyland Monorail is considered an indoor attraction. As such, all Guests age 2 and above are required to wear a facial covering while riding.
Beep, beep! And stand clear of the doors! This planDisney Panelist is pulling out of the station. Once again, I would like to thank you for allowing me to share my Disneyland Resort knowledge with you. I truly hope that you and your party enjoy kicking off a brand new yEAR at “The Happiest Place on Earth!”
Cheers, Tiffanie
