I have a party of 4 adults for a vacation package, 2 back out within 30 and 2 days before arrival and 2 continue with the trip. The fee is $50 and the refund is the cost for the 2 who backed out minus the cost total travel protection plan for 2. Right?

Welcome back to planDisney, Megan! I'm so glad you trust us with your Disney vacation planning questions! I'm happy to help you!

I love that you are planning a visit to The Most Magical Place on Earth. I find that the anticipation is a big part of the fun! When we schedule far in advance, it comes with the risk of our circumstances changing. It's wise to consider this possibility. A Disney vacation package (including room and tickets) must be paid in full 30 days before your arrival. Making a change to your travel party after this time will likely incur a change fee (currently $50) and potentially additional fees. While the current policy appears to include a refund for the cancelled guests, these types of things are always subject to change without notice. This is Disney's policy whether or not you have travel insurance.

If you have four adults staying in one room and are unsure about two of them, another option is to book the vacation package and then add the other two adults as your check-in day approaches, and you feel sure they will be coming with you. This will only work if you will be staying in the same room, regardless of your travel party.

Travel Insurance is different. It is purchased through a third party and covers any non-refundable costs of your trip (hotel, tickets, flights, and other expenses) if you have to cancel or end your vacation early. There is a specific list of reasons that are covered, so be sure to read the terms carefully. I am not sure how cancelling for only two members of your party would affect your coverage.

I visited Walt Disney World in early May of this year and have decided that it is a wonderful time to go! It was hot enough to enjoy the pools and water parks, but the crowds seemed lower than usual. Keep an eye on the Special Offers, Packages, and More page. You can book your vacation package as soon as your dates are available, and if you find an offer, you can apply it to your reservation. This can typically be done online, but you can always call Walt Disney World Tickets and Hotel Reservations, and a Cast Member will help you.

I hope this is helpful, Megan, and that you plan the Disney vacation of your dreams! We are here for you every step of the way, so don't hesitate to let us know if you have any more questions!
