I have a park reservation to magic kingdom on July 4. If i leave the park in the afternoon, am i guaranteed re-entry that evening? Or can they turn me away due to capacity limits?

Hey Howdy Hey Kelley and welcome to planDisney!

Wow Kelley, looks like your trip to Walt Disney World Resort is coming up fast! Only a few short days until you will be strolling around Main Street U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom!! I am sure you are well aware, but you are in for a special treat for the nighttime fireworks show in Magic Kingdom. You will be able to see the epic return of Disney's Celebrate America - Fourth of July Concert in the Sky special firework show in Magic Kingdom on July 3rd and 4th. We all know no one does nighttime shows like Disney, so I am sure you will love it! Ok back on track, let's talk about park attendance.

It is standard practice now that when you are visiting Walt Disney World parks, you not only need a theme park ticket but also a Theme Park Reservation in order to get into the parks. You do have an option to add on a benefit of the ticket for Park Hopping which is available starting after 2:00 p.m. but we will talk about those tickets more in a second.

Having to book Theme Park Reservations allows Disney to set expectations from a staffing perspective more precisely. That being said, once you have your ticket and reservation, you are guaranteed a spot in the park as you already have it reserved. Those with Park Hopper ticket options are allowed in depending on park capacity. I have yet to hear anyone with a theme park reservation be turned away trying to get back into their "home" park for the day. I have heard this happening infrequently to those with the hopper option but Disney also has explicit writings that state hopping is allowed depending on capacity and you may be turned away.

One thing to guarantee your inquiry will be during the day of your visit. Only those Cast Members working the gates truly know how close to capacity things are getting. You might want to double-check with them before you leave that you will be safe to return. But based on the need to make Theme Park Reservations, I would find it very difficult for Disney to turn someone away with a reservation for the park they are trying to get into.

I would make sure you get back into the parks from late afternoon to early evening to ensure you get a spot for the fireworks. Nothing is better than a quick mobile order from Casey's Corner and relaxing downtime while you wait for the fireworks near the rose gardens of the Magic Kingdom hub.

Best of luck with the final preparations for your upcoming trip and if you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out, we would be happy to help!

    Have a Magical Day,
