I have a park reservation but I was only able to get it for a day I didn’t not prefer; if I see a last minute availability on the calendar and cancel my current reservation, how likely is it that I will be able to snag that reservation?

    Hello, Sadia,

Thanks for visiting us at planDisney. That’s a great question. I want you to enjoy a wonderful visit to the Disneyland Resort. I hope my thoughts on this topic help you out.

I feel like you are right to be cautious about making changes to theme park reservations. The Disneyland Resort has been more popular than ever. Because the number of theme park reservations is limited, it has been relatively common to see many dates run out of reservations lately. Reservations that are available for a date that had previously been fully booked may be somewhat fleeting. There is a risk of the reservations being taken again by the time you cancel an existing reservation and return to the "My Theme Park Reservations" page to book the new reservation.

When I am looking over dates on the theme park reservation availability calendar, I generally feel comfortable making reservation changes for dates that have both theme parks available as well as the availability of at least one or both parks on the dates around my desired date. When I feel confident enough to make a change, I like to have the "My Theme Park Reservations" page open on two different devices or at least two different tabs of my web browser. I refresh the availability calendar one last time to make sure the desired replacement reservation is still available. Then, I quickly step through canceling the existing reservation on one device and then quickly step through booking the new reservation on the other device. Maybe I’m paranoid. But I take our family vacations to the Disneyland Resort seriously. So I want to make sure to leave as little room for chance as possible.

There are still no guarantees in this process. It’s difficult to know for sure whether activity on the park reservation pages is low or if hundreds of other Guests are also making updates of their own at the same time as me. But on the bright side recently, I have noticed some dates over the next week become more available. I find that encouraging, especially for the popular time leading up to Halloween.

Tony’s Tip: If you are a Guest at one of the three Disneyland Resort Hotels, be sure to book your park reservations from the "My Hotel Reservations" page. That way, you’ll get access to theme park reservations exclusively for hotel Guests.

Whichever day you end up visiting, I hope you have a magical time at the Disneyland Resort, Sadia!
