Hi, Panel! I am planning our next vacation for May of 2014. I see on some sites that you can make resort reservations 499 days out, and I am closer than that now. What is an advantage of booking so early? Are rates locked in? Are the resorts likely to fill?

    Hi Rebecca!

Yes, its true - Room only reservations can be made that far in advance. I am a bit of a neurotic planner, so I can honestly say I've considered it... but I've never actually decided to book that far in advance. Personally, I don't there there are enough benefits to doing so.

Your resort room rates are not locked in - in fact, you'll most likely need to pay the highest holiday rate for your room and then be credit back the difference (if you're traveling during a non-holiday time). This is because the official room rates are not released that far in advance.

It is unlikely that resorts will fill quite that far in advance.

I do recommend booking when resort rates and packages are released (usually mid-year) for the following year. AND, always keep an eye on the Special Offers page. If a great deal applies to your vacation, it can often be found there. These offers change periodically, so its good to keep checking!

Hope you'll stop back and let the Moms Panel help plan more details of your trip! We love to help out!
