Hi panel! My family and I are planning our first trip to Walt Disney world in April 2015. We are staying at the all star music resort. I was wondering should I pay the extra 25 dollars to stay closer to the pools and food court? Is the resort that big?

    Hi Jennifer,

Congratulations on your first magical vacation to the Walt Disney World Resort.  You have a great question about preferred rooms in the Value Resort room category.  The decision to upgrade room locations is a highly personal one and can vary from person to person and even vacation to vacation.  I have stayed in Disney's All-Star Music Resort hotel many times in their standard and preferred location rooms.  For me the proximity to the pool doesn't factor a lot into my decision, however proximity to food court and bus transportation depot does.  It seems as if my family is never in a hurry to go to the pool but we are always in a hurry to get some food or travel to a theme park.

If my vacation budget is very tight and I am watching my money closely then I don't choose a preferred room.  If however I have more leeway then I almost always choose a preferred room over a standard room.  I love being able to quickly go to the food court to fill up my Rapid Fill mug or bring back some treats for my family.  Also at the end of the day it is so worth the extra few dollars to transport my sleeping children who appear to have magically gained 100 pounds each to the closest buildings than the furthest ones.  The Resort hotel grounds are quite large and having a preferred room definitely makes my trips to the food court and bus depot more convenient.

One thing to note is that the Family Suites at Disney's All-Star Music Resort are all in preferred buildings.  Therefore if you are considering reserving a Family Suite you will not have to worry about upgrading since your suite will already be in a preferred location category.

Thank you for your question.  If you have any further vacation planning questions please come back and visit us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel.  We love to help!

    Blessings,
