Hi panel! My family of 3 are going to Disney for the first time in April 2015. We're staying at the all-star music resort. We have character reservations at two locations. Do you think we should purchase a dining plan? Do they really save money? Thx!

    Hi Jennifer,

I am so excited for your family to experience Walt Disney World for the first time! I bet it will be a vacation you'll never forget. When it comes to the Disney Dining Plan, I suggest pricing out the meals you plan on attending and comparing it to the price of the Dining Plans. Unofficial sites like TouringPlans.com and AllEars.net provide menu prices (subject to change) so you can see what a typical day of meals will cost.

You'll also want to consider what type of eaters your family are. For my family, the Disney Dining Plan isn't always the best option simply because of the way our family eats. My kids are what I like to call "grazers" and prefer to eat a big breakfast and then snack all day. For my best friend's family, however, the Disney Dining Plan is a great option because they love to sit down for meals and eat at several character meals each trip.

I would sit down and price out eating "out of pocket" versus the Disney Dining Plan and see if the value and quantity of meals are the right fit for your family. It can be a great money-saver for your family, but it all depends on your family preferences.

Please let us know if you have any other questions, Jennifer.

    Have a Disney day,
