Hello panel moms and dad. First WDW trip. How long would you recomend a family of three to stay? I was thinking 6 or 7 nights. My husband says 3 or 4. I don't feel we'll see much of anything with big crowds/long lines in summer 2009.What do you pros think?

Can you stay for less time? Absolutely. But I guarantee you'll be returning in the future to see what you missed. With 3 nights, I would concentrate on just going to the Magic Kingdom for 2 days as well as relaxing at your resort and/or visiting Downtown Disney. With 4 nights, I would do 2 days at Magic Kingdom and 1 day at one of the other parks.

For first time visitors to WDW, families envision their vacation at the Magic Kingdom. I frequently get asked by first time visitors whether they can walk between the Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom, for instance. It’s the size of the resort that is difficult to wrap your mind, time commitment and budget around!

When planning a trip to WDW, you must prioritize. Decide what parks you must visit and how much time you can afford to spend based on your budget, work and school schedules. Even when our family stays 7 or more nights, we still do not get to see and do everything that Walt Disney World has to offer.

Think of WDW as an all-encompassing resort. It's not just a theme park. The hotels, restaurants, dining and recreation options are countless as well.

    So:
    1. Figure your budget
    2. Decide which parks you want to visit on your first trip
    3. Decide if you want time to relax at your resort, visit a water park, bike ride, etc.
    4. Keep saying "WDW is twice the size of Manhattan"
    5. Return to step 1

Enjoy planning your magical first trip!
