Hey Howdy Hey Cameron and welcome to planDisney!
Although I never like talking about canceling a trip to Walt Disney World Resort, it is inevitable that things do come up and trips need to be canceled or rebooked. Thankfully, Disney has really great policies in place that will apply to both vacation packages as well as room-only bookings so let's go over a few scenarios.
First off, let's review the
vacation package policy. When you book a vacation package with Disney, room and theme park tickets, a $200.00 deposit is required to secure your booking and the total amount due is 30 days from your arrival date. If you needed to cancel your trip and do so 30 days or more from your date of arrival you would get a full refund. If you needed to cancel your trip from 2 to 29 days from your date of arrival, you would lose your $200.00 deposit but get the rest back. If you cancel less than 2 days from your date of arrival, there is no refund. You can, however, make changes to your vacation package 30 days or less from your date of arrival for a $50.00 charge.
Now, as for the
room-only policy. To make a reservation, a deposit is required that usually equals the first-night stay plus tax with the rest due on the date of your arrival. If you did need to cancel your reservation, you would have to do this five days or more from your date of arrival in order to get a refund of your deposit. You are also able to make changes to your reservation travel dates as well but will be charged the difference if the new dates are more expensive.
Theme Park ticket purchase is a little different yet. At the time of purchase, you are required to pay the total amount due. This is nonrefundable after the purchase is made. These tickets are really flexible though. You can change the dates you want to use them, but they do come with an expiration date you will see on them. If you wanted to change a date outside the expiration date, you will have to
call Disney and a Cast Member will help you apply what you paid for your ticket to a new ticket.
So there we go, a brief rundown of the cancelation policy for Disney vacation. I hope you do not have to worry about canceling your trip and if you are concerned about the dates and overall cost, I would also highly suggest
Travel Insurance. Disney does have a plan you can add up until the 30 days from your date of arrival and depending on the policy you choose, will help to cover costs for canceled trips. Just make sure to read the policy to see if it applies to your particular situation.
Good luck with your continued planning and let us know if you have further questions!
Happy planning,
Nick
