Hi there, Jeff!
Welcome back to planDisney! It sounds like December won't just be the
most wonderful time of the year for you but the
most magical one as well. How exciting! Because the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve is one of the most popular times for Guests to visit Walt Disney World Resort (schools are on vacation and tinsel, lights, and Christmas trees still abound), I think it's a great idea to purchase
Lightning Lane Multi Pass so that you can bypass standby queues during your vacation! I was fortunate to have a magical vacation scheduled for the week after the new Lightning Lane system debuted, so I'm happy to share a bit of what I learned with you!
While you can
purchase Lightning Lane passes in advance - 7 days before you check in for Disney Resort hotel Guests and 3 days before your visit for all other Guests - you are also free to edit your selections at any time after the purchase is made. You can even opt to modify the park in which you hold your passes. You can easily make these adjustments by modifying your selections in the My Disney Experience app. Please keep in mind that availability could be limited for popular attractions and there
might be a price difference between Lightning Lane Multi Pass in the park you initially purchased and your new selection. If the new price is higher, you would be charged the difference between the two costs, but if the price were to be lower than that of your initial purchase, you would not receive a refund. Of course, this is a new system, so these details are subject to change before your arrival, but this is the policy at this time.
On a personal note, my family had a wonderful experience with this new system! We loved having our top 3 attractions secured before we were even on vacation, and when it was time to make additional selections, we found that refreshing the app populated times that weren't initially available. We were even able to modify later entry times for some earlier in the day as other Guests changed their plans! Because Lighting Lane passes are not included in the cost of our vacation packages, my husband and I typically alternate between purchasing Lighting Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass throughout our vacation to add some variety to our days and minimize expenses.
I'm sure you can't wait to see
Walt Disney World Resort in its holiday finest, Jeff! I hope this information was helpful for you as you plan your upcoming visit. If you have any additional questions, feel free to
stop back by. I'm always happy to help!
Thinking Happy Thoughts,
Lizzie
