I am overwhelmed trying to plan a day at Disneyland, for my grandsons ages six and 11. Is there anyone who could help me plan the day? Without going VIP service. We are planning to go March 25, 2022.

Hiya Jeannine, and thanks for bringing your question to planDisney! You’ve arrived at the perfect place, because that’s exactly what my fellow panelists and I are here for – to help you plan your dream vacation to the Happiest Place on Earth!

For starters, it looks like you already have your arrival date set, which is a great first step. You’ll want to make sure you have your tickets purchased and theme-park reservations made for yourself and your grandsons. When selecting tickets, you can choose between a One Park Per Day ticket, or a Park Hopper ticket. With a Park Hopper ticket, you’ll have the chance to “hop” to the other park after 1:00 PM. If you have a One Park Per Day ticket, then you'll be selecting one theme park and remaining there the entire day. If this is your first visit, my favorite itinerary is to plan four days, including two full One Park Per Day tickets for each park, one rest day at your hotel and Downtown Disney District, and one additional day with a Park Hopper ticket to re-visit your favorite attractions and experiences from each park.

Next, do you have a hotel picked out yet? Depending on your budget and preferences, you can choose to stay at a Disneyland Resort Hotel, or a Good Neighbor Hotel. Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is the closest hotel to the theme parks, and even offers an exclusive entrance into Disney California Adventure Park! The Disneyland Hotel, which is my family’s favorite option, is just a short walk away from the theme parks, and is adjacent to the Disneyland Monorail for a speedy ride into Disneyland Park. Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel is just past the Disneyland Hotel, and offers great views of Disney California Adventure Park. Many of the Good Neighbor Hotels are within walking distance of the Disneyland Resort, too.

Next, you’ll want to think about dining reservations. These tend to book quickly, so you may need to continue checking the website in case new reservations open up as your trip gets closer. You may want to consider a Character Dining experience – these are a special way to see Characters (currently from a distance) and enjoy some entertainment while dining!

Lastly, I recommend downloading the Disneyland app, which is my favorite handy helper for navigating your magical park days. If you don’t already have one, you’ll need to create a Disney account so that you can link your tickets to your app. Then, you can scan your tickets from the convenience of your mobile device! You can also use the app to make dining reservations, check wait times, mobile order food and drinks, and use the all-new Disney Genie and Disney Genie+ services

I know this is a lot of information to take in, so please feel free to come back with more questions so we can help you plan your special visit, Jeannine! Happy planning!

Greetings from sunny California! I live less than an hour from the Disneyland Resort, and have been an Annual Passholder (and now a Magic Key Passholder) for more than 20 years! As a mom of three kids ages 5-10, I consider myself an expert at navigating the Disneyland Resort with little ones. My family of five can’t get enough of the magic and happiness we encounter every time we step foot on Main Street, U.S.A.
