can you order food from the sit down restaurant to go when no reservations are available? like say sci fi...

Ahoy there, Jennifer! Welcome to planDisney!

If you'll excuse me, I'm a Disney Cruise Line specialist, but I couldn't help but pull into port when I saw you mention one of my all-time favorite restaurants at Walt Disney World Resort: Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater! It may be a controversial pick, but in my opinion, no visit to Disney's Hollywood Studios is complete without a meal in an automo-booth!

While you'll never have to convince me to circle 60-days before a visit to try and snag an advanced dining reservation to my favorite restaurant, sometimes, it's not in the CARds to be able to drive on in to a popular restaurant. Unfortunately, unless a table-service restaurant is currently accepting mobile orders (which only happens infrequently) there's not usually a take-out option. So what's a guest to do? How about the next best thing?

Four Words: Mobile Dine Walk-up Availability. (Ok, so that's five words and a hyphen, but stay with me here!)

Mobile Dine Walk-up Availability allows you to use the My Disney Experience mobile app to add your party to the walk-up list at select table-service restaurants at Walt Disney World Resort! Here's how it works:

    • Check availability at participating restaurants via the app—or by scanning a QR code located in the restaurant’s lobby. There’s no need to visit the host stand to check availability!
    • Then, use the app to add your party to the walk-up list of an available restaurant. At this time, you can also confirm your party details, including special dietary requests.
    • Once your table is ready, you’ll be notified to proceed to a specified location!

Now, there's no guarantee that you'll be at the top of the list at exactly the time you're looking to eat, but if you're able to be flexible, this is a great way to grab the food you've been craving from the some of the most popular restaurants if you haven't managed to get a reservation! And look on the bright side, if the queue is long and you're getting hungry, that gives you time to sneak in an extra snack! That's a planDrew-approved win-win!

Well, I don't know about you, but I'm officially craving some fried pickles and a burger under the "night sky," Jennifer! I hope I've been able to help you set a course (nautical term) for a culinary adventure! Thank you so much for your question! If you come up with any other questions as you continue planning, please drop us another line here at planDisney!

Until the next time I pull into port, I'll SEA ya real soon,

    Andrew
