Hello, Joan, and a very warm welcome to planDisney! What a special visit you have coming up to the Happiest Place on Earth, with some very special people! I'm so thrilled you'll be able to share this magical place together.
With all there is to experience and explore, a day in Disneyland is quite a bit of walking so I'm really glad that you're planning ahead. Thank you for your great question.
Disneyland does provide
mobility devices for rent, including ECVs (Electric Conveyance Vehicles) and manual wheelchairs, and both are super helpful to save steps and conserve energy! I recently spent a few days in the Most Magical Place on Earth with my 80-year-old mom, who rented an ECV, and there's no way we could've experienced everything we experienced in the parks without it.
ECVs may not be reserved in advance so plan to arrive early at the
Stroller Shop located outside the theme parks, just east of the Disneyland Park Main Entrance, as a limited number of ECVs and wheelchairs are available for rent on a first-come, first-served basis. I confirmed with a friendly Cast Member that the Stroller Shop opens one hour prior to park opening. (Be aware that hours are subject to change without notice.)
When you mentioned transportation at Disneyland, Joan, I couldn't help but think of the Disneyland Railroad, Disneyland Monorail, and Main Street Vehicles. These attractions are all located in Disneyland Park and require a theme park ticket. They are also a relaxing way to get from one place to another and include magical views!
The
Disneyland Monorail has two stops on its 13-minute round-trip loop which include Tomorrowland station in Disneyland Park and
Downtown Disney District station on the far west side, next to Disneyland Hotel.
Monorail Tip: Kindly ask a Cast Member when boarding the monorail if there is room up front in the "nose cone" with the driver or in the back! Both offer a pretty spectacular riding experience, if they're available! And your grandkids will get a kick out of it!
Your attention please! The
Disneyland Railroad is my favorite attraction in all of Disneyland - it's true! It's nostalgic, relaxing, and allows you to discover most of Disneyland without taking a step. The Disneyland Railroad also delights all ages! Guests may board or disembark the train at any of the four stations: Main Street, U.S.A., New Orleans Square, Mickey's Toontown, and Tomorrowland, or stay onboard for the whole loop, which lasts about 20 minutes. I love to grab a Mickey-shaped Beignet and a Mint Julep at the Mint Julep Bar and hop "all aboard" at the New Orleans Station the last hour before sunset. It's pure magic.
Lastly, take a leisurely ride up (or down) Main Street, U.S.A. in a darling, turn of the century, vintage vehicle, like a horse-drawn trolley or omnibus. Catch a
Main Street Vehicle in Town Square or in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle for a one-way journey and experience quintessential Disneyland.
I hope this has been helpful, Joan, and provides you with a few ideas. But no matter how you decide to spend your time during your visit to Disneyland, you and your grandkids will be making memories together that will last a lifetime - because you're the magic, Grandma.
Warmest wishes,
McCayla
