Hiya, Karee. Thanks for stopping in here at planDisney. We’re always happy to help!
As the mom of a young adult with Down syndrome, I’ve learned a thing or two over the years about visiting Walt Disney World with a differently-abled child. One of my favorite things about Disney is that it’s a place where
we can all have fun together. Disney has an extra special accommodation that makes our trips more than just manageable; they truly make it easy to tour together in spite of the challenges we face.
I’m referring to the
Disability Access Service. When we arrive at the first theme park of our trip, we stop at Guest Relations and chat with a Cast Member about obtaining Disability Access Service accommodations for the duration of our trip. He or she asks some questions about our needs and our traveling party and then helps to get us all set up. These accommodations allow us to wait for attractions (one attraction at a time) in an alternate location. It allows my daughter to sit instead of stand in long queues and it makes such a difference in our Disney days.
Additional services are available and can include wheelchair or stroller rental, companion restrooms and dietary accommodations. When you stop at Guest Relations, just ask!
I hope this information helps, Karee. Don’t hesitate to ask another question if we can be of further assistance.
