I have the opportunity to stay at the SOG or the Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge for few more $ with special. I am sure they are both nice, but like how Disney castmembers go the extra mile- recommend one above the other? 2 child 8 & 13 - Aug 29 -Sep 6.

I've not stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge (yet!) but I have stayed at Shades of Green.  While I highly recommend Shades of Green as a great value for eligible guests, my pick--in your situation--would be the Animal Kingdom Lodge, hands down!

Like I said, Shades of Green is a great value for eligible guests.  The resort is beautiful, and, for the price, you certainly can't beat the proximity to the Magic Kingdom.  That said, the Animal Kingdom Lodge is spectacular, and, unlike the Shades of Green, it boasts Disney theming at its finest.

I picked up on your comment about appreciating the pixie dust that Disney Cast Members provide, and I know precisely what you are referring to.  The service we received at Shades of Green during our stay there was great; I have absolutely no complaints.  Admittedly, though, coming "home" to that resort at the end of the day didn't compare to coming "home" to one of Disney's resorts.  It's tough to put my finger on the difference, but little things like the towel animals that Disney's mousekeeping staff leaves in your room on occasion paint a picture that words fail to describe.

Of course, to the perks of a stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge you can add:
-the ability to enjoy your morning coffee while you admire giraffes from your balcony
-the convenience of dining at Boma, or Jiko (one of my favorite WDW restaurants)

If the additional expense of a stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge won't be a burden, it would definitely be my recommendation.  Especially if, like me, you desire to be surrounded by subtle magical touches 24/7 during your trips.  That said, the Shades of Green is a lovely resort and I am confident that if you choose to stay there, you will have a great experience.

    Good luck with your decision!
