What is the opinion of tipping housekeeping at the resorts? If it is a good idea how much of a tip is recommended?

    Hi Tina,

When it comes to tipping, I think a lot of people are unclear about when to tip, who to tip, or how much to tip.  I don't know about your family, but I know the housekeepers who have to straighten up our room on vacation must work really hard.  Although it's not required, it's a nice gesture, and I'm sure they appreciate any tips you leave.

A general rule of thumb I like to follow is $1 or $2 per guest in the room per day.  My family of 5 generally leaves between $5 & $10 per day.  If you do decide to tip your housekeepers, it's a good idea to leave a tip each day, rather than at the end of your stay since the housekeeping staff rotates.  Before our trip, I usually have my children make a "mousekeeping" envelope for each day of our stay.  Then each day before we leave, we put our tip inside.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
