Welcome back Catherine!
I don't have any personal experience with the "picnic in the park" program at Disney's Animal Kingdom so I asked my colleagues here at the Moms Panel. They shared a wealth of information with me so that I could pass it along to you. I just love the team work I experience every day here at the Moms Panel!
Although the predecessor to the "picnic in the park" program (which included the option of hot foods like rotisserie chicken) ceased to exist in January 2010, the current program offers grab and go options (mostly sandwiches) that guests can pick up near Beastly Bazaar in Disney's Animal Kingdom. Individual meals are not available but guests can purchase meals for two, three, or four. Meals are presented in an attractive, environmentally friendly reusable bag. Quick service credits from the Disney Dining Plan may be used to purchase these meals.
Although this picnic-style experience at Disney's Animal Kingdom is the only one of its kind currently available in the Disney theme parks, Disney's Hollywood Studios did offer something similar at the end of 2011. The picnic was called "
A Taste of Hollywood To Go" and guests picked up their tasty meals at Min & Bill's Dockside Diner. Guests who reserved this dining experience by calling (407) WDW-DINE also enjoyed reserved seating at Fantasmic! that evening. I'm hoping that this experience will be available again sometime in the future.
If you have any additional questions regarding your upcoming trip, Catherine, don't hesitate to send them our way. We love to help guests plan magical Walt Disney World vacations!
