Hi Jill,
(Great name, by the way!)
If your son loves trains then he is in for a real treat at Walt Disney World! There are several he can enjoy during your upcoming visit. If you are staying off property, I assume you'll be driving to the Magic Kingdom. After you park in the guest parking area, board a monorail to the front gates of the park. At some point during your day, be sure to board the old fashioned train that travels around the perimeter of the park. It makes three stops (Main Street U.S.A., Frontierland, and Fantasyland). You can board it anywhere you like and ride it as often as you wish. If you're ready for a train-related thrill, you can ride the runaway train at
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. That's one of my favorite rides.
Over at Disney's Animal Kingdom, be sure to board the W
ildlife Express Train to Rafiki's Planet Watch. It's a charming and unusual train that I'm sure will fascinate your son.
Perhaps on a future visit, when your son is ten or older, you could take him on the
Steam Trains Tour. This is a must-do for train lovers visiting Walt Disney World.
If he'd like to visit some of the small functional train cars that Walt Disney used to ride in his own backyard, head on over to the Villas at Wilderness Lodge. The Carolwood Pacific Room houses some of these spectacular treasures.
Have fun next month! Let us know if you need any additional advice.
