What does one do about car seats when traveling to excursions at each port of call? Are they available to rent?

    Hi, Holly!

As a mom, I understand your plight of trying to keep your children safe when traveling in the various modes of transportation available in ports of call.  Without knowing your itinerary, I have to give you the blanket answer about the availability of car seats as "It varies widely."  Although Guest Services on Disney Cruise Line has a limited amount of strollers for guests to rent on board, I am not aware of their renting car seats.

For some ports to which Disney Cruise Line travels, the regulations for child safety are as strict as in the US. However, some are island countries where everything is laid back -- including the rules of the road. Of course, the availability of and regulations for car seats are going to vary according to how old/big your child is, too.

My best advice is to carry your child's car seat with you on board -- for many reasons.  If you're visiting several different ports, you'll more than likely need a car seat at each one and having your own cuts down on trying to find one everywhere you go. You can store your car seat in your stateroom closet or under the bed, and there's a chance your stateroom host/hostess may have a nook or cranny in which to store your car seat for the duration of the cruise. Plus, if your child is a baby, I was always leery of germs in borrowed/rented car seats.

Depending on your schedule, you can also schedule nursery time for your child while the adults explore the port -- either independently or on a Port Adventure. Or, you can bring a stroller and keep your mode of transportation in a port super simple. I hope this helps!

Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
