Here is one that has me baffled. If my vacation is for December 15 of any year. That puts the 499 mark at around August 1 of the previous year. By then the full package prices are out. Couldn't I then book my full package 499 days out?

    Hi William,

What you're saying makes sense to me.

You are correct that package pricing and online booking typically become available during the last week of July or first week of August of the previous year. (Let's say August 1 as a guess.) On August 1, you could make full package reservations for all of the next year, including the last two weeks of December.

Guests sometimes become frustrated when they're trying to make reservations for the early part of a year. A guest wanting a reservation for their winter break in February can only find out package information seven months in advance, but a guest wanting to make a reservation for Christmas break can get package info 16 months in advance. If you're a type-A planner person, you could get anxious with this discrepancy.

The 499 days in advance issue is more important if your vacation is early on the calendar. This allows you to at least make sure you have a room at the hotel you want on the dates you want.
