Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Shawn!
Embroidered Mickey Ear hats are totally a must-have when you visit Walt Disney World Resort. I still have my first set of ears from when I was a kid, as well as a second set I purchased when I became a panelist. My kids each have a set with their name on it, which are treasured on their shelves at home.
When the ears get machine stitched on the woolly felt, the stitches are incredibly close and intricate. Being a costume designer of many years, I’ve had my share of seam rippers and snip scissors to deal with while poring over tiny stitches. I can also tell you that fabrics such as felt and pressed wool sometimes do not fare well after having stitches removed. Often, holes in the fabric, pressed stitch lines, and color transfer may remain, so if you were to spend a few hours removing them, it may not work to your satisfaction. Purchasing a new set of ears may be in your best interest. There are a myriad of styles and prints available, with the biggest selections being found in
Magic Kingdom inside the Chapeau as well as the Main Street Theatre building. The buildings are very close to each other so you can see all of the hats in a few minutes time.
I hope you are able to get a new pair of ears with your desired name or phrase on them. If you decide to clip out your stitching, I hope you are successful, though I caution against the labor intensive, unknown-result job. If there is anything else I can help you with regarding your Disney collection, please let me know. I’ve personally got gadgets and gizmos a-plenty…. but I want more! ~ Lindsey P.
