Hello, Julie!
When purchasing a
Disney Dining Plan, you must buy it for all members of your party for the entire length of your stay. Unfortunately, if one member of your party arrives a few days later than others, then you will still pay for the length of stay for everyone, as dining plans are part of your Walt Disney World Resort hotel reservation.
Will a dining plan be cost effective for your family? That's a great question, as you will want to get the most out of your investment so consider where you plan to dine and how you eat. If you intend to dine at
Disney Signature dining experiences or
dinner shows, then you may find that those dining credits that are designated for your oldest Mouseketeer may come in handy. The nice thing about dining plan credits is you have flexibility in how you use them and when; therefore, those credits can actually work to your benefit. Also, consider your "vacation appetite." If most members of your party are light eaters, then choosing a plan that offers an appetizer, entree and dessert at every meal might be too much food. There are several plans available, so take a look at each to see which one works best for your situation.
There certainly is much to consider, especially when one member of your party is unable to be there for the length of your stay. I hope this helps with your decision! Please visit us again should additional questions arise as you continue to plan your vacation.
