Hello! Our older son is arriving one day before we change resorts (split stay) but we do not want to pay for a dining plan for him. What do we do so we're not out that money for the full dining plan?

    Welcome back to planDisney, Ashley!

Oh, you are arriving at Walt Disney World at the most magical time of year. How exciting!

Ashley, one of the perks of a split stay on your visit is that each of the two hotel reservations are separate. Disney Dining Plans must be purchased for the entire length of stay and for the entire party. Because you have two reservation numbers, you could opt to add a Disney Dining Plan to your second one, not adding it to the first.

If you are considering the Disney Dining Plan for both stays--this includes 1 Table-Service Meal per per person per night of stay--another option is to enjoy dining at a restaurant that requires 2 Table-Service meals. The meals for the first hotel stay don't expire until midnight on the day of checkout. This means that those extra TS meals can be used for a great dinner, for example, the day your son arrives as well as the next day. We love visiting Le Cellier Steakhouse, Be Our Guest Restaurant, Tiffins Restaurant, Cinderella's Royal Table, and Yachtsman Steakhouse and when we find ourselves with an extra Table-Service meal, any one of these quickly becomes a must-do!

Once you've moved over to the second resort, you can start using those new meals and snacks the next day since you may still have some left over from the first one. Remember, those meals and snacks from the first stay expire at midnight after you've checked out, so use them up first.

Ashley, when we have extra Quick-Service meals--usually due to a late night arrival or an early departure--we like find items that travel well so we've got a meal at the airport when returning home. My favorite place for this is over at Disney Springs: EARL OF SANDWICH. Check your WDW Resort hotel's Quick-Service menu, too; there may be great options to wrap up and take along for your return trip. The Artist's Palette at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa has a great grilled ham and cheese sandwich as well as a delicious panini. You can get an Italian sub at Intermission Food Court, located at Disney's All-Star Music Resort or choose from so many to-go options from BoardWalk Deli. All so good. All so portable. And all are QS options on your Dining Plan.

Ashley, as you plan your visit to The Most Magical Place on Earth, be sure to send additional questions our way. We love to help!
