On some older rides at Disney World the standby line is closed but lightning lane is available, why is this? I hadn't planned on purchasing Genie+ but am starting to think I don't have a choice!

Welcome to planDisney, Ashley! I bet you're getting so excited about your upcoming trip to Walt Disney World Resort this summer. The final countdown is on!

Ashley, I want to assure you that absolutely do have a choice, and purchasing Disney Genie+ service for your vacation is totally optional. There are only two attractions at Walt Disney World Resort that don't have a standby line, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and TRON Lightcycle / Run, but you do not need to purchase Disney Genie+ service to join the Virtual Queue for either of those attractions. It is completely complimentary and included with your ticket!

Aside from the two I just mentioned, there are no other attractions that don't have a standby queue. While you are welcome to purchase Disney Genie+ service to book Lightning Lanes and reduce your wait time for certain attractions, it is not a requirement at any of the Theme Parks. Beyond your admission, you will not be required to have Disney Genie+ service or pay any à la carte fees to ride anything. You can hop in the standby queue for any attraction or show at your convenience!

I hope this answers your question, Ashley, and please let us know if there's anything else we can do to help you plan your magical vacation.
