Where can I have an old magic band linked

Welcome to planDisney, Elizabeth! Your trip is quickly approaching, I’m very jealous! Let’s jump right into your question about linking an old MagicBand, so you will be ready to either check in to your Disney Resort Collection hotel room upon arrival or head straight to the Mickey touch point at your favorite theme park!

Before I walk you through linking a MagicBand or MagicBand+ to your account, you should know that your MagicBand has an internal battery that cannot be replaced or recharged, so depending on how old the MagicBand is, it may be beyond its technical life. Disney estimates this battery should last about two years. The internal battery is primarily used to connect Guests to Disney PhotoPass so even if the battery is no longer functioning, using the Mickey touch points to do things like entering the parks, tapping in at Lightning Lane entrances, and unlocking your hotel door should still work. I recently used a MagicBand that is about three years old, and it worked without issue.

The MagicBand+ is a little different, as it has a rechargeable battery that is estimated to last between one and three days, but nightly charging is recommended. This battery is used for the interactive experiences throughout Walt Disney World, but similarly to the MagicBand, if the rechargeable battery is no longer working you should still have the ability to enter parks, tap in at Lightning Lane entrances, make purchases, and unlock your hotel room.

To link your MagicBand or MagicBand+ you will first need to create an account through the main Walt Disney World website by hovering over MyDisneyExperience and scrolling down to Sign In or Create Account. Once you have done this, or if you already have an account set up, you will hover over MyDisneyExperience and select My MagicBands and Cards. Scroll down to Link a MagicBand, click Link, and you will be taken to a screen to enter the ID number located on the back of each MagicBand/MagicBand+.

Alternatively, if you have downloaded and signed into the My Disney Experience App, you can click the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the bottom right corner, scroll to MagicBands and More, and then to Link Your MagicBand or Card at the bottom of the screen. This method will allow you to use your mobile device to connect your MagicBand/MagicBand+ to your My Disney Experience account by tapping your mobile device to the band, pretty cool right?

Elizabeth, if you follow these steps and your band isn’t connecting or if you can get it to connect but the band stops working during your visit, you can visit Guest Relations at the entry point to any of the parks (and water parks) to speak to a Cast Member who will assist you by linking your account to a plastic card to use for the duration of your stay. Or, if you think you deserve an upgrade (you do!) you can always find new MagicBands/MagicBand+ to purchase through the My Disney Experience App, on shopDisney, and at merchandise locations in Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs.

I hope this answers any questions you may have! Feel free to visit planDisney with any additional questions you have, or you can always submit a question to me directly! Have fun on your upcoming visit!
