I have an old magic band from 2019. I don’t think it works anymore and I’m going to the park in May 20. How do I fix that?

Hi Tague and welcome to planDisney!

Disney MagicBands are the coolest technology at Walt Disney World!  They make our vacations so convenient by using them to enter the theme parks, make purchases for dining and merchandise and open our Disney Resort hotel room door.  There is no need to dig around in your bag for various cards when you have all that magic right on your wrist.

Disney says that the battery life of a MagicBand is about 2 years, but I have some that are much older that still work that I like to use on occasion.  The only way to test out if an old MagicBand still has power is to try it at the park entrance or at the front desk of your Resort hotel.  Since your MagicBand is about 5 years old, chances are that it's time for it to be retired.

How do you fix it?  If it is no longer working, you can't, but you can purchase a new one!  If you are staying at a Disney Resort hotel for your visit next month, you have the option to purchase a new MagicBand at a pre-arrival discount.  To do this, head to your My Disney Experience account online and click on "MagicBands and Cards".  Your next trip will be listed at the top with the option to customize a new MagicBand.  It will be shipped right to your home if you order with enough time or it will be waiting for you at the front desk.  You can also purchase a new MagicBand from shopDisney.  There are lots of fun character designs and themes to choose from and you can have it shipped to your home before your visit.  The last option is to purchase one in person.  There are many gift shops that sell MagicBands at the theme parks, Disney Resort hotels and at Disney Springs.  You can check them all out in person and see which one you like the best.

If you choose not to purchase a new MagicBand, no problem!  You can use a hard ticket for entering the theme parks.  If you don't have a hard ticket, you can have one printed at any ticket window at any theme park.  You can also use the My Disney Experience Mobile App to enter the parks as well with the Disney Magic Mobile Service.

Please stop back by and visit if you have any additional vacation planning questions.

    Have a magical day!
