OK, Amanda, you're my "go-to" girl: which Disneyland hotel should I choose for my very first trip to DL? Each one has clear advantages, so how do I decide? And can you equate them to any WDW resorts for me? Thanks so much!

Hi Sherry!  I am so excited to have the opportunity to help spread Pixie Dust on your first visit to the Happiest Place on Earth! You're absolutely correct in noting that each Disneyland Resort has a unique advantage.  Paradise Pier offers unparalleled views of Disney California Adventure Park, while Disneyland Hotel features an incredible new pool area and is located steps away from the Downtown Disney and the Monorail station. Grand Californian ensures guests are seated in the lap of ultimate luxury and even features exclusive guest access to California Adventure.

The Disneyland Hotels are each incredibly unique and I am having a difficult time equating them to the Walt Disney World Resorts for the simple fact that they are just "different."  Although Paradise Pier offers the least expensive rates, I would put it in more of a moderate to deluxe category with regard to Disney World hotel categories.  The newly renovated Disneyland Hotel is recipient of the AAA 4-Diamond Award and features luxurious accommodations and fine dining with a touch of classic Disney nostalgia and many subdued magical little extras.  You can read more about my love for Disneyland Hotel in this question I recently answered for a guest.

The easiest resort to compare to a Disney World Resort, is Grand Californian, which reminds me of Wilderness Lodge.  The lobbies are extremely similar in style and decor, but Grand Californian is a little more streamlined and contemporary. Disneyland Resort truly offers something for everyone with regard to accommodations, but my two top picks for a first-timer would be Grand Californian and Disneyland Hotel, because they are each located just steps away from the magic! Thanks for your question and here's wishing you a most magical trip to The Disneyland Resort!
