OH PLZ, PLZ, ANSWER! In a HUGE pickle. 1st time to WDW, may not be able to return. Have DS4 & DH & I all going to AKL 8 NTS booked. Concerned about location away from MK. DS4 needs naps! Live in CA, want to see something diff. than like Grand CA.

    Hi Shelley,

I don't think you're in a pickle at all.  In fact, I think you are in for an amazing vacation!  The Animal Kingdom Lodge is magnificent.  The lobby is huge (make sure you look up at the ceiling!) and the grounds, including savannas (and their unprecedented access to exotic animals) are like nothing else in the world, let alone Disney.  If your son is like most little guys his age, and loves animals, the resort alone will have him in pre-schooler bliss!  Boma and Jiko are amazing restaurants (two of my absolute favorites!) and Uzima Pool, themed like a giant animal watering hole is amazing!  It's massive, and in my opinion, one of the best (maybe the best) at Disney!  It's a zero-entry pool which is fantastic for little guys.

Now, as for your "nap dilemma", don't worry.  I stayed at the Lodge with two napping kids, and had no problem using Disney transportation to come back mid-day for a little siesta.  While the resort is a bit further from Magic Kingdom than some others,  it's not in a different state, and I don't think you'll notice at all. (Think 20 minutes versus 15 on a bus.)  The buses run consistently, and reliably and you'll be able to head back to the parks later in the day with a happy, well-rested kid.  If you're lucky, your little one will pass out on the bus (mine always did).  On the plus side, both Blizzard Beach and Animal Kingdom are a quick ride away, so if either of these are on your "to do list", you'll enjoy a short ride.

I'm being honest, I know keeping kids on a schedule can be daunting on vacation, but, "mom to mom", I think you've made an outstanding choice!  PS...I'm staying at Animal Kingdom Villas with my clan in August. Say hi if you're there at the same time!

    Have a magical trip!
