Would you offer me some tipping guidelines? I'm particularly curious about housekeeping. Thank you.

Hi David!  Tipping is one of those things that just isn't spelled out at Disney since it is not required per se but certainly appreciated.

When discussing dining gratuities it will automatically be added for larger groups and also Tables of Wonderland card holders.  That amount is 18%.  For all other dining it is recommended gratuities be anywhere from 15-20% at table service locations and certainly depending on the service given to you during your meal.

Housekeeping is a tougher area to discuss.  When staying on a club level at a resort we tend to give the housekeepers up to $10 a day as they try to get to know each guest and do special things for them during their stay. When staying in any other room at a resort we try to leave a daily tip of $3-$5 for the housekeepers.  Since you are not apt to meet or get to know these persons as well it is often recommended to leave that each day.  However, we often just leave it at the end of our stay. Again tips are for service that is up to expectations and if you seem to have difficulty during your stay you by no means must feel that poor service must be rewarded.  If you have any problems please don't hesitate to call housekeeping immediately so they can solve any issue that might have developed.

If you stay in a resort that has turn down service we like to also reward this person as well with a tip of $1-$2 a night.

If you become acquainted with a certain housekeeper you can feel free to ask them what days they will be working so you can personally give them a gratuity. They really seem to appreciate the personal gesture from the guests they are trying to provide good service to.
