i noticed that mk will be open til 1:00 a.m on 4th of july. do some of the rides close once it gets dark? or any suggestions on how to plan for night activities compared to day activities. can only be at mk for one day so trying to make the best of it.

    Hi Diana,

One of the sayings I have heard of in Walt Disney World is "where the night is as bright as the day!" and I must say this is very true.  As far as I have witnessed there have always been normal operations of the attractions in Magic Kingdom until the park officially closes.  There are certain attractions such as the "Jungle Cruise" which will still operate in the dark, but they will have very bright flashlights being used in order to view everything in the dark!  The only exception to attractions not being open is if there are operational updates on certain attractions which means they will be closed for a certain amount of time for "refurbishment" purposes.  These "operational updates" are found by looking at the monthly calendar for the day you will be visiting and the park you will be going to.  At the bottom of this page you will see these "updates" listed as well as times for the parades and fireworks.  For July 4, 2008, there are no operational updates scheduled for the Magic Kingdom.  You are lucky that on this day you will be able to experience a "special" fireworks display at the Magic Kingdom called: "Disney's Celebrate America! - A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky" at 9:00pm.  There will be certain shows and character meet-n-greets that will only be available during the daytime hours, so you will need to plan on visiting these first so you don't miss out by waiting until the evening.  You can see all of the times of shows and certain attractions listed on the Times Guide that you can get just inside of the entrance to Magic Kingdom.  I will also be at Magic Kingdom for the July 4th festivities, so say hi! if you see me there.  Take your time, relax, and enjoy yourselves in this very magical place!

    Best wishes,
