I do not understand how the fast pass works. We will be arriving for our first visit in 5 weeks and want everything sorted out by then.

    Hi Louise,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and thank you for asking us a question, my fellow Canadian!

The Disney FastPass+ system can be overwhelming at first, but it’s relatively simple to use, once you get the hang of it. What it allows you to do is to make up to 3 selections at a single Walt Disney World Resort Theme Park, per day, before you even start your Disney Parks vacation. Then, once you’ve used all of your selections for a given day, you can make more, one at a time, at any Theme Park of your choice.

Here’s how you set everything up. First, make yourself a My Disney Experience account, and then make a separate profile for each member of your party with the My Family & Friends option. Then, make sure that each of these profiles has a valid Theme Park Ticket linked to that account.

If you’re going to be staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you can link that reservation number to your account under the “My Plans” section of My Disney Experience. That should also “automagically” create a profile for everyone associated with that reservation and, if you purchased Theme Park Tickets, they should be linked to their profiles, too.

Next, pick which Theme Parks you’d like to visit on which days and make yourself a mental list of which attractions you’d like to experience the most. Please note that every Theme Park except for Magic Kingdom Park has a “tiered” selection process where you can pick one attraction from the first category (which typically includes some of the most popular ones in that Park) and then two other selections in the second category.

Once that’s done, you’re ready to make your choices! I usually like to choose a 10:30-11:30 return window for my first FastPass+ selection selection of the day, and then book my other two selections back to back of that time. Remember that you have an hour to redeem each selection, so you should have plenty of time to get where you want to go.

Finally, please note that if you aren’t staying in a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, your FastPass+ selection window only opens 30 days before each day that you’ll be visiting. That might mean that, if you’re only arriving in 5 weeks, you may not be able to make your choices quite yet. If, however, you’re staying “on property”, then you should be good to go, right now!

I hope my answer helps you plan the perfect Disney Day during your upcoming vacation. There's also a great FastPass+ FAQ for you to consult, too. If you have any other technical questions, please don’t hesitate to come back and see us or to contact Walt Disney World Resort to help “untangle” your vacation plans.

    Have a Magical Day,
