I am not hearing enough about tent camping at FW. Is it almost too cold in the morning/nights during mid October to camp? Or do long sleeves/sweaters and blankets relieve the cold? And what about the waterparks? Are they fun mid October still?

    La Rae:

With average October high temperatures in Orlando around 86 and lows near 68, that month is still warm, in my opinion.  When we stayed at Fort Wilderness at the end of the October last fall, we wore shorts most days and took light jackets to the parks at night.

I have to admit, though, I think the tree canopy at the Fort keeps it a bit cooler than the larger resorts that sport large concrete spaces.  But I think you'll find the weather perfect for tent camping (half of our loop last year had tents up even though it was a preferred loop for RVs...).  Best of all, the afternoon thundershowers that plague tent campers in the summer and September's hurricane season become minimal the longer the month pushes on.

As for the water parks, keep in mind that the water there is kept at a comfortable temperature.  You may only find one water park open if you come later in the month (Typhoon Lagoon closed down for its annual refurb while we were there), but at least one will be open.  We were there first thing in the morning and didn't feel chilled!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
