When will normal traditional pre-pandemic Disney Character meet & greets return to Disneyland & all Disney Parks again?

It’s a small world after all, Jason, and I’m so glad you found your way back to planDisney! Thanks for stopping by once again with your question about Character Experiences at the Disneyland Resort!

Like you, my family and I have been missing the hugs and autographs of our past visits to the Disneyland Resort. There’s something so special about a hug from Mickey and Minnie Mouse! Unfortunately, traditional Character meet-and-greets haven’t returned to the Disneyland Resort just yet, and we don’t have an exact date for when we can expect them to return, either. However, I am happy to report that our favorite Disney Characters are still out-and-about and ready to chat with Guests all around Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, and even the Disneyland Resort Hotels! Aside from those warm hugs I mentioned earlier, I have to admit that I actually enjoy these socially-distanced experiences, too!

With the current meet-and-greets, my family and I haven’t felt as rushed since we can linger at the experience longer than a traditional meet-and-greet of year’s past. In fact, one of our favorite Character Experiences right now is on Main Street, U.S.A., on the steps leading up to the Disneyland Railroad. Here, you can find the "Fab Five" Characters throughout the day, including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto. I’ve also seen Chip and Dale make an appearance here, too!

Another great spot in Disneyland Park is to the right of Disney Showcase, also on Main Street, U.S.A. Just last week, my daughter received a big “heart” in the air from Minnie Mouse, who posed sweetly for a picture with my daughter, even from a distance. It turned into such an adorable moment, and one I’m sure my daughter will remember forever! So, that’s one perk to the distanced Character Experiences – you can watch the Characters for as long as you and your family want to, no line required!

In addition, you can still find Characters at the magical Character Dining experiences offered at the Disneyland Resort. During these experiences, you’ll often get a special photo opportunity with a beloved Character, along with prime viewing of a fun Character “parade” through the dining area, so you can wave and take pictures from a distance. Of course, this isn’t as intimate as the Character Experiences of past years, but it’s a sprinkling of pixie dust that has brightened my day, that’s for sure!

Last but not least, some of our favorite entertainment offerings are returning to the parks this year. I’m most looking forward to the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade, Fantasmic!, and World of Color! I can’t wait to be there in person to capture the magic of these awesome nighttime spectaculars and parades once again!

I recommend staying tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for any future announcements about the return of traditional meet-and-greets, Jason. I’m crossing my fingers that we’ll both be cheering at some good news in the near future.

Hope to see ya’ real soon!

Meet the Panelist: Kristin, California

Greetings from sunny California! I live less than an hour from the Disneyland Resort, and have been an Annual Passholder (and now a Magic Key Passholder) for more than 20 years! As a mom of three kids ages 5-10, I consider myself an expert at navigating the Disneyland Resort with little ones. My family of five can’t get enough of the magic and happiness we encounter every time we step foot on Main Street, U.S.A. I look forward to sprinkling pixie dust on your next visit to the Happiest Place on Earth! Learn More About Kristin
