We have a 7-night cruise on the Fantasy and have been assigned second dining. On our last cruise we felt we missed out on several deck parties due to second dining as well. Is it true last dining might miss out on several "parties"?

    Welcome back to planDisney, Elizabeth!

A trip on the Disney Fantasy means you have at least seven nights to sample all the delicious food, see amazing ports of call, and of course, enjoy the family-friendly entertainment Disney Cruise Line is known for. I understand wanting to take advantage of all the fun on board. I am also assigned second dining for my upcoming cruise, but I assure you that any deck parties offered on your sailing will occur between the two dining times or after the second seating.

I know one party you’re probably looking forward to is Pirate Night. Those pesky plundering pirates can’t wait to take over the ship! In the past, some of the entertainment, such as dancing and joining Mickey’s pirate crew, happened between the two dining times, but the rest of the buccaneer blast was after 10:00 p.m. I find that our servers are great at pacing the meal to get us on deck in time to enjoy the festivities. Please check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app once you’re on the ship for the exact times. Entertainment offerings and schedules are subject to change.

Elizabeth, many Guests enjoy second dining because it’s quieter and cooler in the evening by the pool. It’s a great time to grab a raft and cruise around the ship on the AquaDuck or enjoy a peaceful sunset on your verandah. Tow Mater’s Grill is just a few steps away to help tide you over until dinner. If you would like to change your dining time, you can do so on the Disney Cruise Line website. Look for the heading “Already Booked,” then click “My Reservations.” You can change to main dining if available or join the waitlist.

Before it’s time to zip up those suitcases, I have one more suggestion. If you’re seeking a relaxing lunch with personalized service on embarkation day, I recommend heading to one of the open dining rooms instead of eating at Cabanas. I’ve learned from my good friend Lumiere that it’s nice to be the Guest! Whether you’re looking for soup de jour or hot hors d’oeuvres, the staff is happy to serve a culinary feast. There may not be any grey stuff but try the Welcome Aboard Sundae -- it’s delicious!

If any other questions wind up on your plate as you continue planning, please stop by planDisney again. I am always happy to help Guests plan the vacation of their dreams.
