Ahoy there Peter and welcome aboard planDisney, your destination for nautical knowledge ahead of your next Disney Cruise Line voyage!
I'm so glad that you came here to ask about the
Disney Wish, as I literally stepped off this morning and am already missing all of the technology making magic on board. Like you, I wondered whether the
MagicBand+ that I had recently purchased would have any functionality on board.
Unfortunately I discovered that no matter how much I wanted to tap it onto a variety of surfaces and touch points, none of the features of the MagicBand+ currently apply on board. Instead, the primary method of accessing your stateroom,
making payments, and
disembarking the ship in Ports of Call is by using a Key To the World Card. These are assigned to every guest on board; at the present time these may be found just outside your stateroom door once the guest rooms are ready on Embarkation day.
The wristbands or bracelets that you might notice around the ships are instead referred to as
Oceaneer Bands which are worn by the youngest cruisers on board. These allow them to be scanned and accounted for during closed, age-restricted sessions within the youth spaces on board:
Disney's Oceaneer Club and
Disney's Oceaneer Lab. Conversely, while guests may choose to keep their Oceaneer Bands after their voyage (for the initial cost charged when they first receive it) - they do not function at Disney Theme Parks or Resorts at the current time.
If you're like me and enjoy the enhanced interactive experiences that you can enjoy with the MagicBand+, I recommend downloading the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator App in order to take part in the
Disney Uncharted Adventure. It is an all-new digital experience currently exclusive to the Disney Wish and one of my favorite ways that technology is integrated into thoughtful and surprising fun elements across the ship!
Please come back to planDisney to
ask me any more questions about my recent experience on board the Disney Wish, and be sure to connect with our Disney Cruise Line specialists
Tracie and
Adrianna for the waves of knowledge they're happy to bestow upon fellow seafarers.
Wishing you all the best on your upcoming voyage!
