How does the new fast pass system work? especically for magic kingdom but also for epcot!

    Hiya Caroline!

Welcome again to planDisney! I love talking about Disney Genie+ to guests. It can be a little confusing and a change of pace from the Fast Pass program of yore but I have found that if used properly it can be even better!

Now, unfortunately, Disney Genie+ is not free. Each day you wish to use it you must purchase it through your My Disney Experience Mobile App. The cost each day will vary as it is priced based on demand. In addition, when you purchase it you select which Park you want to use it in or the option to use it in "Multiple Parks." Select "Multiple Parks" if you have a ticket with the Park Hopper option and want to head to more than one park per day. There is a free Disney Genie service that provides you with itinerary and meal options as you enjoy your day that is customized to your preferences. However, if you are looking to enter an attraction through the Lightning Lane entrance and enjoy minimal wait times you should purchase Disney Genie+. Make sure to make that purchase before 7 am as that is when you can make your first Lightning Lane selection. You can then make your second selection either two hours after Park standard opening time or if the last Lightning Lane reservation made is redeemed. After that, the rule follows that you can book another reservation two hours after making one or after using your last booked reservation. The timing can get confusing and can change after you tap into an attraction so keep an eye on your "Tip Board" on your app which will show you the next time you can make a reservation. This time can change sometimes if you tap into an attraction so my top tips are to set an alarm for when the app is telling you the next reservation time and check the app again after you tap into a Lightning Lane. You are just waiting in the queue at that point so it's a good use of time to check your Tip Board. Walt Disney World Resort says three Lightning Lanes a day is great but I challenge you to aim for six!

I highly recommend using Disney Genie+ in Magic Kingdom Park as this Park has the most attractions with Lightning Lane entrances and you will make good use of it here. I highly recommend the first Lightning Lanes you book at this Park be from the following: Peter Pan's Flight, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Jungle Cruise, and Space Mountain. There are limited Lightning Lane selections for each ride and these tend to run out the first. When visiting EPCOT the top attractions to get Lightning Lanes first are Frozen Ever After, Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, Soarin' Around the World, and Test Track.

I hope this helps plan your day and help you move efficiently in the Parks!

    Happy Planning!
