With the new Fantasyland just opening I'm sure it will be very popular place. My question is, to avoid long waits would we be better making a bee line there in the morning or waiting until later in the day? We are going in April.

You will most likely experience the lowest crowd levels by visiting New Fantasyland first thing in the morning, Darlene.  It's important to arrive at the Magic Kingdom about thirty minutes before the park officially opens so that you'll be able to make the most of the low crowd levels early in the day.  I was recently at Walt Disney World in December and found that late at night crowd levels in New Fantasyland were quite tolerable as well.  I hope that helps.  Have a wonderful trip!
