Congratulations on your DVC membership! I can totally understand wanting to bank those point for use next year, without wanting to give up that 2009 vacation! I suggest calling member services with your travel dates and asking if they have any "cash" rooms available with the DVC member discount. Often times a portion of the rooms are set aside with a Disney Vacation Club discounted rate (usually 20-30 percent of rack rate). These can only be booked through member services, and are only available at the Disney Vacation Club Resorts. If they don't have any of the discounted rooms available, they may offer you a room at rack rate. Depending on the time of year you intend to travel you may find a better deal by going through WDW reservations and checking what they have for special offers.
As for theme park tickets, the only discount offered for DVC members is on the Annual Pass. If you are planning more than one trip in a 12 month period (at least 10 days visiting the theme parks), it would be worthwhile to take advantage of the discounted rate for an annual pass. As as an annual passholder you would be eligible for any AP resort discounts (typically offered at most Disney resorts as well as DVC properties) that are offered through WDW Reservations, this would be a nice backup in the event DVC discount is not available.
For my family, because the Friday and Saturday nights stays are typically the majority of our point usage, we will pay "cash" for these nights using either the DVC discount through member services or an annual pass discount through WDW reservations. Keep in mind that discounted rooms are subject to availability, and may not be offered at all times of the year.
