Hi! With the new changes Disney has made to the dining place at the start of this year, I'm wondering since I'm a light eater, would I be able to take the place of my 8 year old's child credit at casual dining places if he is not using it?

Hi there, Memory! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

Every time my family visits the Walt Disney World Resort, I think our trip revolves around food. Where and when we are going to eat and what new places we're planning to try are always at the center of our vacation, so I'm happy to help guide you in your food journey!

Using the Disney Dining Plan is a great way to help your vacation be stress free since all of your meals will be pre-paid! You bring up a great question regarding how to utilize your dining entitlements when you're a light eater. I spoke with a Cast Member regarding your inquiry and the official word is that kids' meal entitlements are intended to be used by guests ages 9 and younger. However, ultimately it's at the discretion of the restaurant where you are dining.

So, to be safe, as you are planning your week, I would not count on being able to use your child's credits for your own meals unless you're planning to "swap." (This meaning he or she wants to order from the adult menu and you the kids'- so you just trade plates). Another possibility is that you would be permitted to order from the kids' menu, but you would redeem one of your regular adult dining entitlements for that meal. Truly it is at the discretion of the restaurant, so I would highly suggest speaking to your server as soon as you sit down.

Another tip I will offer up is that menus for each Casual Dining restaurant are available online and I recommend spending a few minutes reviewing these before your trip. This might help you feel better prepared, however the server responds to your request. A few restaurants around "the World" that I have enjoyed that have lighter fare options are Yak & Yeti Restaurant at Disney's Animal Kingdom, Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen at Magic Kingdom Park and Teppan Edo at Epcot.

Memory, I hope this helps as you're getting ready for your Magical vacation. Wishing you a trip that is light, refreshing and scrumptious- just like my favorite treat from Aloha Isle... the DOLE Whip!
