I have a new cell phone. I tried to link my magic band to the new phone but it is saying it is already connected to another device. What can I do?

Hey Howdy Hey Nikki and welcome to planDisney!

Technology is one of the biggest developments to enhance the theme park experience when vacationing in the Walt Disney World Resort. MagicBands are a big piece of this puzzle with MagicBand+ allowing Guests to become part of the story during their days in the parks. While these things are amazing, they can also be a little particular when it comes to setup. Thank you for your questions about linking your MagicBand with your new phone, let's see what we can come up with.

One great part about MagicBands is that they are linked to an account rather than a device. Since you did just get a new one, you should be able to download the My Disney Experience app on your phone and still have the MagicBand connected to the account. You should not have to relink MagicBand generation 1 or 2 to your new phone in most cases. This will be different for MagicBand+.

The first thing you can do is to check to ensure it is linked to your app. Open your app and select the three horizontal lines on the bottom right of the screen. Once there, scroll to the "Account" section and select "MagicBands & Cards". You should then be able to select your profile and see your MagicBands linked. You will see different options for MagicBands and MagicBand+. Generation 1 and 2 MagicBands should not have any issues. MagicBand+ would need to reconnect to your new phone.

Reconnecting your MagicBand+ to your phone would involve selecting the "Reconnect" or "Pair" button on your My Disney Experience app and then holding the button on the back of your MagicBand+ for 10 seconds. This restarts the pairing process and then you should be able to reconnect. Make sure you have a full charge on your MagicBand when doing this step as this did not work for me until I had a full charge on my band.

If you are still having issues, you can feel free to give Disney a call and explain to the Cast Members your issue. They can typically problem solve and make any corrections they need to and have things up and running for your upcoming vacation. You can also take your MagicBand to the front desk when you arrive onsite and explain your issue as well. They will also be able to get your MagicBand reset and ready to go if the steps above do not help.

Best of luck as you try to get your MagicBand reconnected and I hope these recommendations were helpful. If you have any other questions, please feel free to let us know, we are always happy to help!

    To Infinity and Beyond,

    Nick
