    1) My nephew is 4 whilst we are away and we would like to have a small birthday party 5 adults & 3 children where there will be characters. where would you recommend and will they be able to put on a birthday cake?

    Hello Damian!  Celebrating birthday's at Walt Disney World is so much fun!  For your 4 year old nephew, I have a couple of character-themed suggestions.  My first pick is Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort.  Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald will all be there and the atmosphere is fun and festive.  They have a great kid-friendly menu, and a dessert bar that everyone will love!  Chef Mickey's can't be beat, in my opinion, as far as a combination of characters, fun atmosphere and food.  My other suggestion would be Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom.  This offers the beloved characters from Winnie-the-Pooh, and again, has a great menu for the whole family.  It is a bit more 'sedate' than Chef Mickey's but still would be a fun place to celebrate a birthday.

    Both of these restaurants can provide, for a cost, a small chocolate or vanilla 6" birthday cake.  There is no advance notice needed for one of these cakes;  you will just inform the host/hostess upon arrival if you are interested in one (or two) of these cakes.  Also, if you wish something a little more personalized, you could order a specialty cake that could be ready at the restaurant for you.  You could pick his favourite character(s), flavor, size, etc.  Advance notice is required, and you can order it by calling 407-827-2253.

    Be sure to pick up a Happy Birthday celebration button at your Walt Disney World resort or at Guest Relations at the theme parks.  It's complimentary, and he can wear it throughout his vacation.  Often, Cast Members or even the characters will give a special greeting or attention to guests wearing these pins - he'll feel really special!
