Do I need a vehicle to stay in the Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort - or is it an easily walkable distance from the buses?

    Hey Howdy Hey, Una!

Welcome to the planDisney Roundup. We are so happy to have you. Yee-Haw, it sounds like you are in for a rootin' tootin' time with a stay at the Cabins. I, too, have an upcoming visit to Fort Wilderness and have done nothing but research whether I should or shouldn’t rent a golf cart.

After hours of debating and checking in with my fellow panelists, the vote is in, and the result is “yes”. Yes, rent a golf cart for your visit. Not only will it get you back to your cabin quicker, after a long day in the parks, but it also cuts back on your transportation time. You’ll get to park your golf cart rental at the marina and take a boat to Magic Kingdom, or park your cart at the Outpost Depot to board a bus to the other theme parks or even Disney Springs. It makes traveling just a little bit easier, and the golf cart rental is part of the fun and experience while staying at the Cabins. If you choose to opt out of renting a golf cart, you can always use the internal bus and transfer to the theme park buses. I’ve also heard that walking is possible, but again, everyone recommends saving those steps and renting the golf cart.

Una, I hope this helps guide your planning and encourages you to rent that golf cart! It will add to your camping experience and make traveling, even around the resort, easier and exciting! Just think about all the early or late snack runs you can make by taking your golf cart over to the Trail's End. That's my plan, cruising away for a quick coffee and pastry before heading to the parks with the rest of the family. I enjoy those peaceful solo adventures throughout the resort. And maybe you can too!

    Happy Camping,

Hi ya Pals! I'm Shantel, an Army wife and mom of two. I grew up going to the parks, and now we're sharing that tradition with our kids. When I am not visiting the Walt Disney World Resort, I'm at home researching and planning for our next trip. One of my favorite things to do is search for new snacks to try, especially if they are Mickey shaped. I'm definitely living the dream my heart wished for! I cannot wait to answer your questions and help make your vacation even more magical!
